First you have to go see your dentist. If it's an infection, which it sounds to be, then he/she will give you anti-biotics and most probably suggest a root canal. Some dentists will do the root canal without having to take antibiotics, depending on the infection. If you don't want to do the root canal, then you'll probably have to get the tooth pulled.
Let's say you take antibitics, and it stops hurting, that doesn't meen the problems gone, just the pain of the infection. The infection will come back, and every time it does, it affects the bone level of where that tooth is.
It pretty much comes down to either a root canal or an extraction. Try and see your dentist as soon as you can, since it will only get worst, and you'll lose more sleep. (If it's been five days, I'm pretty sure it's waking you up at night now). Good luck.

You need to see a doctor and get some antibiotics to kill the infection. An abscess is an infection. If the infection gets into the rest of your body, you can get really sick or even die from it. So You Better Go To The Doctor Right Away!!!!!!! In the meantime, you can rinse your mouth with warm salt water, swishing it mostly on the tooth that is inflamed. Salt is a healing agent and the warm water will help with some of that pain. GO TO THE DOCTOR!!!!

I have to agree with "everyone is crazy...but me", if it's already an abscess (formation of pus on the tissues), no matter what kind of pain relievers you will take, it won't help much. The basic thing here is to have the infection controlled. If the abscess is getting bigger you might need a surgical incision to drain the pus. And yes, the infection might erode your bones. And since the infection is already in the head area, you have a risk of spreading the infection to the brain. Penicillin is a good drug but it covers only the gram positive bacteria. You need coverage for the other bacteria. Ibuprofen is the drug that worked for me to relieve pain - but take the 200mg only; the 800mg will make your stomach hurt bad. Go back to your doctor (or to another if you don't trust this one) and tell him that it seems the infection is not being controlled. Good luck.

You need to get to the doctor immediately. An infection in your tooth can spread to the bone, which can spread all over the place as well. It's not something to be taken lightly, and waiting any longer can put you at risk for even more serious infections.
For the pain, buy some clove bud oil and apply it to the abscess. It tastes nasty but it will help a bit. But definitely get to the dentist immediately.

Painkillers will not help an infection-you need an antibiotic which can be prescribed by a dentist or doctor. See one soon!

You should see a doctor or go to the ER, today! That's a very bad infection that needs treatment now. Antibiotics. Mouth and teeth infections are very bad on the body. Especially the heart. Better get going.

GO TO THE DENTIST If you have an abscess you need antibiotic or removal of the infection by mechanical means. It isn't going to cure itself.

You need antibiotics to fight the infection and then you'll need a cap/filling if the tooth can be saved, otherwise it will have to come out.
Go see your dentist ASAP!
