sometimes just wiping it with a damp cotton cloth will help. someone told me that putting toothpaste or peanut butter also helps because it helps to fill in the cracks, but i wouldn't try that. it sounds strange. if that doesn't work, you could copy the files onto your computer and then burn them onto a new cd.

You might not to be able to repair it. You can try, tho, as there are several commercial products available which can repair some scratches. A friend of mine claims RAVE Hair Spray, when sprayed on a scratch disk, will remove scratches fairly well. If the disk is pretty valuable, I would buy the real product, tho.

All those that answered "toothpaste" are giving good solutions, but I'd just like to add one that's a bit better.
There's a brass cleaning product called "Brasso" that works very well. It comes in a small can, and can be found at all hardware stores. To use this product on a disc, (or toothpaste), apply with a clean cloth (like an old tee shirt), rubbing from the hole outward toward the rim...NOT IN A CIRCULAR MOTION. Once you've rubbed in the Brasso all the way onto the disc, take another portion of the clean cloth and rubbing in the same manner, polish the disc so it's shiny again. Now try the disc. Good luck.

if it is a small scratch, try wiping it clean and then take a small amount of vaseline and rub it into the scratch. wipe clean to a smooth surface. Has worked for me before!

Try using *paste* toothpaste (not gel) and rubbing it into the cracks, that sometimes works. Then, just let it dry and make a copy of the CD before it goes bad again.
