Try this:

Click Start>Help and Support>type: Compatability Wizard>Click on it>Run through the wizard.

Doing the above will allow you to choose an OS mode to run the chosen software in.

You will have all sorts of problems upgrading to Vista, like compatability issues, lack of drivers, do not upgrade unless you're upgrading to a new computer or all of your software.
The only good thing I've heard about Vista is that is a lot faster than Windows XP.

You should read this article from Forbes Magazine about Vista and why no one with any technical knowledge or understanding of the operating system will upgrade to it.

That should answer you questions as to why your programs are not working anymore.

If your like me I bet your ready to go back to xp.Been back to store 4 times so far as my main problem is my computer keeps locking up with vista.Again today they checked and could find nothing wrong with computer but said it might want graphics card.Well had new card installed and still it locks up?.As for h/w & soft/w I have found around 50%of manufacturers have a free downloadable file upgrade and more of them are working on the problem,so it`s worth checking the sites.
