Howard Dean, Joe Biden, John Edwards, Hillary Clinton all ran from Vietnam service. Barak Obama ran from gulf war service
First of all, in order to have run from something, you must have had an obligation to serve. Since neither Dean or Biden were called for the draft, they did not run from anything. John Edwards was twenty years old when the US started pulling out of RVN. Hillary, well, we won't even go there.
Barak Obama also had no obligation to serve in the Gulf War. Remember, we have an all volunteer military now.
Now let's look at the Republican slate. Out of the fourteen potential candidates on the Republican side, how many have military service? Can you count to four. That's not even counting all of the fringe candidates.
Seems neither party has the lock on military service for their candidates. You seem to equate lack of military service as cowardice, I'd sure like to see you explain that to some firefighter and police friends I have who have never served in the miltary.

Choosing to not join the military doesn't make one a coward. Joining the military does not make you a hero. Submitting like a docile wimp to the government's call for you to go kill people and break things just because it chooses to define them as its "enemy" - now, that makes you a coward.
Some of the bravest people in the Vietnam War era are those who had the courage to day NO to the draft. There were serious consequences for standing firm on principle at that time and it took real guts to say NO to the government's attempt to prevent the Vietnamese from achieving independence.
Fortunately there were many brave patriots who said NO to Lyndon Johnson and his war, often at great cost to themselves, and they preserved America's honor in a time when America was betrayed by some of its leaders.
But yes, most of the Democrats today are cowards. They lack the guts to come right out and tell George Bush that his absurd war is wrong, based on lies, and that the American people want nothing more to do with it. Hillary is too cowardly to apologize for having supported the invasion of Iraq.
If anyone imagines that mlitary service makes one a hero, ask George W. Bush this: "If it's a "noble cause", as you called it, why aren't your children in uniform?" Oh, excuse me, I was forgetting that George Bush himself wimped out of military service overseas, evading combat by staying at home in the National Guard.

What does it mean to have courage? I think it means to go forward and act on your beliefs even though you are afraid.
Refusing to serve in the military can be a courageous act.
The word "coward" is used too much, often just to indicate disagreement or hostility. We should strive to be more precise in our use of language. It would improve the quality of our arguments.

I don't know if that is what makes them unfit to be a president, but they are all unfit and yes they are all cowards but I think that for different reasons although military does have something to do with it.

Of course they ran. Their motto has always been to run away from adversity and challenges. Put anyone of them up against McCain and you would be comparing a fruit with a hero.

or maybe they are intelligent in realizing that war and violence do nothing to help the world...last time i checked it wasn't a requirement to serve in the military in order to become president...
i admire our troops, however the military is definitely not for everyone....a halfway intelligent and open minded person would realize this.
