I'm planning on buying a laptop: either a Toshiba Satellite or a Sony Vaio. Here’s the thing, they are both a $1000, however, the Sony has an Intel Core Dou, and the Toshiba has an Intel Core 2 duo (1.86 GHz). What differentiates the two processors? Don’t they both have dual cores?

Core 2 duo is better, has twice the cores, so you can expect it to be twice as fast.

I would buy an AMD 2 x 64 rather than an Intel 2 x 32

think about it..it's twice the speed and Intel doesn't have it.
