Sakic scored his 600th goal on an empty net in Calgary, becoming only the 17 person in NHL history to achieve this. They still seemed to completely renounce this accomplishment.

What are your thoughts?

1. it was in calgary at the end of the game. you don't have ceremonies on opposition ice right after you kicked their butt. add to that that they play again in the same building on saturday night. let sleeping dogs lie.

2. sakic is the type of guy that is more concerned about winning and getting back in the playoff hunt than being recognized for an individual achievement.

3. unlike other guys who were playing out the string when they reached 600, super joe is in incredible shape and probably has enough in the tank to chase 700 if he feels like it.

Sakic is a great player. I haven't ignored it. Congrats to Av's fans for witnessing NHL history. As a Ranger fan, I saw Jagr and Shanahan score their 600th goals as well. Sakic's fans and Av's fans should be proud.

The NHL is so caught up in trying to fix something that didn't need fixing back in the 1990's that it probably just forgot. Maybe it's because the NHL is on some obscure network in the US. I'm sure Hockey Night in Canada will have something this weekend that celebrates it.

there are allot of players in the NHL that have had great success and they just seem to never get talked about as much as they should be one other great name that was never mentioned allot over the years is Ron Francis both Francis and Sakic HOF by there numbers but they always led on the ice.

Maybe b/c it was in Calgary and not at a home game in Colorado. When Turgeon potted number 500, remember it was in Colorado. He also received a plaque with the dates of every goal of his scored, while at a home game vs. ironically enough, the Sabres. I'm sure he'll be honored at the next home game in Colorado.

Well, As you have stated, he's the 17th person to do this honor, so the league would not neccessarily have a giant celebration for this occasion. He will however be celebrated when he decides to retire and also when he is a first ballot hall of famer. I am sure Gary Bettman and the league are well aware of the wonderful career of Mr. Joe Sakic.

Sakic has been a good, solid hockey player since his rookie year.
Maybe it would have been more celebrated if he did it on home ice =)

i think since it was an empty netter, it took all the novelty out of it...had he scored on Kipper or Brodeur, they woulda cancelled the Bud Light commercials for the rest of the night...or had he missed the gimme chance at his 600th the Saddle Dome woulda tore itself apart!

Perhaps, but it won't be ignored when he is admitted to the NHL Hall of Fame

Deserves to be more acknowledged, but it's probably because it was an empty net goal.
