Also it is not my computer. It is a friend's. This happened to her twice. The second time after she was on the computer for about 3 hours. She is not a heavy user.

Your computer shutting off like that could mean a lot of things, I would say have a professional come in and check it out, it could be the power supply, it could be going back and fluxuating between voltages...
The first thing that came to mind when I saw this was a hard drive crash, does it chirp or beep? If it chirps, you probably need a new hard drive, if it beeps, it could be anything, the link the guy above me gave you is what you would need, remember the beep then look it up on that link.
But a professional is the best way to deal with it.

Perhaps your computer was overheating. Is the fan working? If it is, it still can overheat and cause the computer to shut down suddenly.
