Why do conglomerates that are vertically integrated forward into distribution prosper in Brazil and Chile but not elsewhere? (marketing channel)

I don't think your statement is true. Meaning I would say there are conglomerates with forward distribution that didn't make it in Brazil or Chile, but succeded in other places.
That being said, maybe the distribution structures are such in Chile and Brazil, that companies have to build thier own as opposed to contracting or partnering.
