The iMac has the whole computer built into the monitor. The MacPro is a desktop tower.

The Macpro is more upgradeable, faster and more expensive. If you're going to be doing things like running FinalCut Pro for video editing, you should probably look towards the MacPro. If you're more interested in surfing the net, working with photographs and using office applications, then I think the iMac will be more than sufficient. You might even get by with a Mac Mini.

Just to clarify another user's misleading answer: The Mac Pro is not a laptop. The laptops are MacBooks and MacBook Pros.

The I macs are pretty good we have one and we love it.
Choosing between the 2 is dependent on what you are planning to do with it. If you are doing professional digital editing and or a lot of really heavy computing then the Pro is what you want. For the rest of us the iMacs are more than adequate.

Yes the Pro it a tower and the iMac is their "basic" desk top.

I know plenty of people who are very well served by the mini.

Good luck in your choice.

An iMac is like the computer with the big screen (I think it's like 24 in. or sum), Mac Pro is like if you already have a moitor you'd like to use and you just need a computer tower but you want a Macintosh one. In my opinion I'd go with the iMac cuz i like the whole idea of a computer and monitor all in one BUT if you get the Mac Pro you could hook it up to an LCD tv screen and use that as your monitor... that would be class!

Imac is the "all-in-one" macintosh - (core 2 due and has an LCD built-in)
the mac-pro is the tower config (it's a dual - dual core xeon and faster than the imac)

an Imac is an all-in one unit, the monitor and the computer are one.

A mac pro isd a desktop comouter in the traditional format with a seperate computer and monitor.

The Imac is cheaper and cool lookjing, but the MacPro is more customizable
