thanks to everyone who replied about the section 8 housing...

from the information u gave me, we are NOT looking for section 8 housing... we are looking for low income based houses/apartments...

if u apply for a low income apartment, do they base ur approval on ur credit report, credit score, ect... or do they base it on how much money u make?

They are the same, apparently -- check the link below for all the information:

"Public housing was established to provide decent and safe rental housing for eligible low-income families, the elderly, and persons with disabilities. Public housing comes in all sizes and types, from scattered single family houses to high rise apartments for elderly families. There are approximately 1.2 million households living in public housing units, managed by some 3,400 HAs. "

To qualify for Section 8 you must be a low-income person (below 50% of the Area Median Income).

Tenant-based vouchers are attached to you as a tenant. A project-based voucher is attached to a particular property. If you live in a unit with a project-based voucher and you move, the Section 8 stays with the property and the next tenant uses the voucher. With a tenant-based voucher, you can take it anywhere as long as the home you wish to rent accepts Section 8 and meets the standards of the Section 8 program.

They are both subsidized housing, the low income is fixed point, the section 8 flexible. Both programs are managed through HUD, you would have to qualify. You will not qualify for either though, you have to be working at least 35 hours a week to be low income.

You have to qualify to get section 8 and there are certain rules that come along with it, low income housing just bases your rent on your monthly income. Not as long of a wait for low income housing. People can be on a waiting list for section 8 for years

Section 8 housing is a type of housing subsidized by the federal goverment.

This differs from low income housing, as low income housing doesnt neccessarily have to have any type of subsidization by the government. Nor do all forms of these housing have limits on income, often they are simply labeled "low income housing", because of the price tag on the house.

section 8 is paid by the goverment and must adhere to certain rules ie in good shape they must maintain it properly and in good repair also low income is simply based on your income and does not have to follow any rules as far as maintaning it and as far as the rent being paid low income rent must be paid by the tenant and the goverment is not responsible for the rent good luck
