Go with the Bose. They are AMAZING, but expensive.

Bose sucks! I use to repair audio equipment and Bose is the most pathetic excuse for a sound sytem there is! I pump my audio to my Pioneer! A third the price of a Bose and ten times the power! What people cant understand is you CANT produce high qaulity sound without moving some air! You cant move air without some speaker cone! Bose doesnt have it!
Bose=high priced injection molded plastic with a stereo clock radio amplifier! Only rich, foolish people with no perception of good audio buy them! Its all a status symbol thing! JBL or Altec Lansing are both far superior to Bose!

I would stick to BOSE, but given a choice between Altec Lansing and JBL, i would definitely take JBL. Altec Lansing is cost effective whilst JBL costs a bomb, the same goes for BOSE. Depends on how much you are willing to spend.

Both of those are good. Either one would be a good choice and another excellent brand is Klipsch. Bose is over rated in my opinion. They are good, but Klipsch came up with the idea of a folded speaker long ago, as in decades ago. But I digress. All of the high end speakers are good and when they are hooked up, your ears and brain can't really tell the difference.

it doesn't matter if it's an altec or JBL, you must check the output sound capability of each speaker, the clarity and sound quality which make the speaker good.

The only way you are going to know for sure is to go to someplace like Circuit City and listen to both and/or others so you can actually hear the difference. I personally like the old style Japanese speakers like Sansui or Pioneer because they had full range yet tremendous presense.
