easiest to copy when you have both computers on the same network. if not, an external USB HD will do the trick. that's too many songs to burn to CD or use a USB memory stick.

First, you transfer files from one computer to another. If you really wanted to convert the files, there is a utility called Windows Audio Converter. Anyway there are several ways to transfer files. If you wanted to transfer all your music at once, a flash drive would probably be too small. Even if you did use a flash-drive though, a flash-drive with a lot of memory runs at the same cost as a cheap external hard-drive.
If you used a flash or hard drive, what you would do is plug the drive into your laptop's USB or Firewire(i394) port, go to My Computer, find the drive, then drag-and-drop your files into the drive. Then click on "Safely Remove Hardware," wait till it says the hard/flash drive is safe to disconnect, plug it into your desktop, and drag the files onto your desktop.
Another way to move the files is by enabling file-sharing on both computers, putting your mucic in the shared-files folder, putting both computers on the same network, going on your desktop, going to the network shared files folder, and dragging them to your desktop.
The last good way to move the files is with a Firewire connection. This method is a bit more complicated, and I would reccommed getting an I.T. experienced friend to help you with that.

By "convert" I assume you mean copy or transfer? There are several options. The easiest way would be to get an external USB hard drive, hook it up to your old PC, copy the music onto it, then plug it into your laptop and copy them over.
You could also do a direct copy if both computers were on the same network. I guess you could also burn a CD or put them on a flash drive, but you probably need to do it more than once as i am sure they wouldn't all fit.

There are a lot of ways to go. Burn a DVD, set both machines up on a network, copy to a thumb drive and paste to the other machine, or buy an external hard drive to mention a few.

CD-R, DVD-R, USB flash drive, external hard drive would be the best media to use to transfer the files.
If you wanted a direct connection, then ethernet would be the best way of doing this. If you do not have a home network, then you can use a cross-over ethernet cable to conduct a direct connection.

what's the length of your iPod? Can it carry each and every of the songs that you've in the old workstation? If definite, then placed each and every of the songs in that iPod and take the iPod with you. once you've your new workstation, you may sync it with new workstation by technique of making use of itunes. inspite of this, you ought to purchase a transportable pressure or an exterior hard disk with the length that could want to carry all of your songs. 300GB? an exterior HD in elementary words expenses about one hundred and fifty funds. then you may move/replica all of your songs to the pressure and voila, you may take the track with you to any workstation you want. sturdy success.
