Why not use MSN Messenger (http://messenger.msn.com) and in a conversation, one of you click on "Ask for remote assistance". Then just follow the prompts (making sure any Norton popper blocker is disabled). Now you can see and/or control your friends desktop. Simple!

Use the wireless network wizard, free with your system or remote assistance also free with your system. These are windows components that are buit in to help you communicate to other components, I've never used remote assistance, but heard it's ok.
