Three times in the last week when I've gone on-line I find out that Yahoo has hijacked my homepage, without my permission of course. They hijack my homepage and alter my homepage settings, trying to force me to use 'My Yahoo' as my homepage.

I've called AT&T tech support and they say they can't prevent this from happening. Does Yahoo have a moral or legal right to do this?

Has Yahoo tampered with any of your homepages without your permission? Is there any way to complain directly to Yahoo about this illegal usage of our services? When they hijack my homepage they disable my AT&T toolbars and do not allow direct feedback to complain about what are doing.

What can we do?

LEO, it is a hijack. SBC tech support confirmed this. And I haven't done any Yahoo upgrades or installs in many months.

Honest, two of my friends have said the same thing has happened to them. AT&T tech support says they've gotten other complaints about this happening. It's nothing more than hijacking.

I have to agree with Dr. Watson on this one. I use Earthlink and haven't done any Yahoo upgrades or downloads and still they've tried to make me use their homepage several times. Think about it this way. I log in three ot four times a day and don't change a damn thing on my computer. If my Earthlink home page comes up and I log out without changing any setting then the next time I log in again its supposed to be my Earthlink homepage, not the My Yahoo homepage. Yahoo is doing this on there own and it ain't right.

I use everything Yahoo, but I have never had the problem ,normally if you are downloading something try using the custom download option ,instead of the normal or auto download , in the custom feature it will ask you about if you want to change your home page , create a short cut on the desk top, auto start up when you start the computer ,that kind of stuff, if you click on the standard set up it answers this for you, Your security program should not allow the change without prompting you and giving you a choice,if it covers hijacking etc..

I never personally experience the problem, but I would suggest you clean your browers history and empty any cookies you might have. You might also want to consider stricter access setting on your internet explorer (all of which are under Tools>Internet Options), which is not the most secure internet browser by any standard. You can try firefox or opera (my personal preference) to access My Yahoo!. I never had problems with My Yahoo with opera, which I told to throw away cookies after I close the broswer.

As for complaining to Yahoo!, well haven't found good ways to get into customer services yet. Lately, the customer support has been disappointing to say the least.

Whenever you perform a Yahoo! install/update, Yahoo's default installation settings will make yahoo as your homepage unless you choose advanced/custom settings for installation.

and it is not a hijack

despite if that's asking you to "sign up to my yahoo" no, hijacker, Yahoo resets your protection "time" to sign up despite if it is been 24 hours, or you turn browsers, " that's a protection function to help look after your account" sturdy success
