Great alternate history book. Gives an interesting look into a period of early history (or pre-history if you like). It is a little simplistic at times, it's not "great literature" but it is a fun read. I just reread it for like the 3rd or 4th time.

Also, the author has a companion series that tells what happened to the rest of the world after the events of "Islands..". Firsst book is called "Dies the Fire", and I actually like that series better.

If you have questions, ask them in comments and I'll check back in later and help if I can.

PS: if you like alternate history / "what if?" type books, read Eric Flint's 1632.
