It is a very expensive way to transfer money from one place to another. Usually, it is used when someone in another state needs help fast. You can do it at some Western Union stores (many are in grocery store outlets), but you pay a premium price. You can also use the online website with a debit or credit card. If possible, look at cheaper ways to send the money, such as express mail or direct bank transfers.

WARNING: If you use a credit card for a "cash like" transaction, Western Union will process this like a "cash advance" against your card. If your card charges higher fees and special fees for "cash advance" or "cash like" transactions, you will likely get hit with a very large fee and interest rate for using that credit card cash advance

If the situation does not need to be cash and other methods will work, consider them. Our daughter in Wisconsin sometimes has financial difficulties feeding her kids. We bought a Walmart gift card to send to her and kept the original receipt. Now, we can take the receipt to our local Walmart and add money to the gift card, that she can use to buy groceries or other necessary items. The only restriction is, she can't get cash back. Still, I can refill the card for free, not pay 20, 30.40, or more that Western Union wants to wire a small amount of money.

Western Union: Your high prices will make you a dinosaur soon!
