RE:
My Radio Is Locked on My 2001 Chevrolet Truck, Who can help me unlock it?
The battery died, the radio is now locked, I need a 3 or 4 digit code to unlock it. The dealership wants to charge $45 but that seems to be a rip. It's a 2001, 2500.
(A friend mentioned some numbers important to unlock it 133/132, if that means anything)

This is a safety feature on later model GMs, from about 1996 and up. This feature was designed to prevent stereo theft (ha-ha, who wants to steal a factory radio?). Anytime your power supply goes off, ie, battery going dead, replacing a battery or alternator, it locks you out of the stereo. There are literally THOUSANDS of codes for these, and the chances on hitting the one it is, are slim, if not maddening to try all of them until you hit on the right one.
These came preset from the factory, with a code specific to the vehicle. More than likely, however, the orginal purchaser of the vehicle set their own code up. The $45 charge is actually not too bad, around here, they charge upwards of $100. And, yes, it has to be read by a special machine at the dealer. The upside of this, however, is that once you've done this, you can reset it with your own code, so if the situation ever arises again, you're not out another $45.
Keep in mind, no one can give you the code, unless you can contact the previous owner, and see what their security code was. That's the only way that I know of that one can escape being charged.

just to make sure the codes your friend gave you are the right ones.
key on engine off, press and hold radio preset buttons 2 &3 for about 8 seconds until the first set of codes appearon the display,
record the three digit #s
press & hold the AM/FM button for about 8 sec. the second set of #numbers will appea, record the second 3 digit #s.
now you need to call delco electronic with both sets of #s
phone # 1 800 537 5140 they in turn will cross the #s over to an unlock 4 digit code.
once you have that,
key on eng. off press the MN button until 000 apears
then press & hold the HR until the first 2 digits match the unlock code.
press & hold the MN button until the last 2 digits match the unlock code. when that's done. press AM/FM to exit programing.
you're done .........turn radio on & enjoy the tunes
ps: maybe you could print the instructions and take it to the vehicle with you .
good luck

That is a ripoff; they're supposed to be giving you good service, not charging you again for something you already paid for.
Try other dealers; if they all want to jack you up for money, I suggest pulling that stereo out and putting in a really good aftermarket stereo.
