i think acer laptops are best value for money. i paid about £600 for mine and am very happy with it.

Dell UK has an outlet store. That is probably your best bet. These are factory refurbished laptops which come with a Dell warranty. You could also check out other manufacturer's sites for outlets. They tend to have closeouts of older models rather than refurbished models but they can also be a good bargain and offer a manufacturer's warranty.
