I nned to take clindamycin hcl 150 mg for a dental infection but can't swallow pills. What is the best way to open the capsule and take it? Please don't say to just swallow the pill, even my doctor said that I would be unable to swallow pills because of an underdeveloped reflex or something like that. The pharmacy said it didn't come in liquid and I really need to get this taken care of before I loose any more teeth. Are the side effects worse if I open the capsule?

The side effects are no different if you open the capsule. If it's a gelatin capsule, you'll have to twist the two halves off. In a worst case scenario, use a mortar and pestle and smash the capsule. Mix the powder into apple sauce, pudding, etc.
Anyway there is liquid solution of clindamycin. I guess they don't carry it.

I did have the same problem before and I cut the pill into small pieces (try 8) and drink it with lots of water (I could drink 5 glasses just for 1 pill and I ended up going to toilet all the time). But as I get use to the pill, I can swallow a bigger one. Now I can swallow 2 pills at once. Some people suggest to put the pill in the banana and swallow it (banana slides easily), but I know what works for me.

i did this when I was little to swallow my pills. First make sure the medicine is safe to take with food. It put the pill on a spoon with yogurt on it. I made sure it was buried in the yogurt. Since you swallow yogurt I would just treat it like I was eatting yogurt.

I would say open over a small piece of bread and immediately put the bread in your mouth and chew it. Give that a try,maybe follow with a glass of water to make sure nothing stuck to the mucus membranes.

If you can swallow food, you can swallow pills.
Take the pill with some water, like normal, or if water doesn't work for you, take it with a bite of food.

well you can try opening the capsule and swallow with water but i don t know if the effects is the same

If it's a liquid pill, break it in half and pour the contents into a glass of water and drink. If it's not a liquid-filled pill, grind it up then put it into a cup of water so it can dissolve then drink it.

maybe try cutting the pills in half or quarter them. I really don't understand why you can't swallow a pill though. Do you have an eating disorder that prevents this?
