Byzantium was once the richest civilization in the world. It's represented today by modern Greece and the Greek Orthodox Church.
The crusades were instrumental in undermining Byzantium. In fact, Venice still holds many treasures taken from Constantinople as war booty intended to pay for the war against the Ottomans.
Even so, Constantinople held out against the growing Muslim empire for centuries with its famous walled city, rich trading networks, and detente (i.e., bribery of its enemies). I think Constantinople was finally lost when their iron chain blocking access to the eastern waterway off the Bosporus was broken, and moslim ships penetrated their defenses.

Have you been to Turkey, Syria, Lebanon or any other arabic countries to understand the difference between all these nations? Do you speak Arabic or Turkish to understand they only have some works in common unlike Arabic spoken in Irak that can be understood in Egypt or Morocco. You know some facts but you are way too far from the truth or the changes that occured in the last hundreds of years and there are too many to mention here. I hope if you do more research on the net or read some books in 2 years' time you will see that what you have written does not reflect the reality to say the least.

Arab expansion was quickly after rise of Mohammad and did not last too long. They occupied Near East, Northern Africa, went into Spain. Byzantine kept their remaining territories (parts of today's Turkey, Greece and to the north).
For centuries the borders did not change too much, until the start of the crusades, Venice taking primate in naval trade and finally, invasion of Turks, that took over most of the former Arab territories. Turks and crusades shrunk Byzantine little by little until only Constantinople remained and eventually fell under Turks.

That's an easy one! The Muslim Arabs won the war, bringing down Eastern Christianity and the main strength of the Orthodox Church. They turned the largest Orthodox Church into the largest mosque in Istanbul. I have studied much about this empire tracing my family tree.
