Different languages, of course, have different ages. Some of the newest languages in the world are Afrikaans (South Africa), Haitian Creole (Haiti), Indonesian (Southeast Asia), Krio (Sierra Leone) and Tok Pisin (New Guinea) while Greek, Russian, Basque and Chinese have been spoken continuously, in various forms, for over 3,000 years.

The earliest records of Spanish and Italian date from the 10th century. Modern English dates only from around the year 1500 during the time of Henry VII.

One of the best sources to find the ages of languages, without researching the languages section of a library, is right here on the Internet. The other day, I found a Wikipedia article on the Hindi language which says that it originated around the year 1000 A.D. evolving from an earlier language called Prakit which in turn, evolved from an even earlier language called Sanskrit.
