I'm in the 8th grade, and at the end of the year there's going to be a sort of mini prom called class night. I have no intention in going and actually am refusing to go because it's just not my thing. I'd have to wear a dress and fancy shoes and get my hair done and that's just not me! There was no problem until my 2 best friends and boyfriend started insisting that I go. My 2 girlfriends are alluding to a gift my boyfriend was going to give me, but I still don't want to go and am vehemently set against it. It seems lie my 3 best friends just aren't listening.... how do I get them to see that I don't want to go?

ok. here's my advice for you:
1. obviously your friends really care about you, and they want you to be there with them having a good time. Obviously your wearing a dress, but it won't have to be lacy, frilly, or even girly... you could make it "you"... They sound like they love u lots, so don't deny them this chance to have a good time.

2. Do something else instead... why not go bowling or have a party? Or, u could go with them to the "mini prom" for a little while, and then make THEM try something that u'r into, but they're not... u could do it right after, or the day later.. this way, everyone can do something they want to do.. and who knows? You might like getting dressed up and haviing a good time with your 2 BFF's and your boyfriend..

And about that mysterious gift... maybe its something really sweet... it sounds like your boyfriend REALLY likes you and might even love you if he wants to go with you this bad... most guys would go out and find another girl, but this one JUST WANTS YOU!!!! The gift could be something you wouldn't want to pass up if u had the chance to see it before decidind... who knows right? If your two BFF's are just alluding to the gift, it sounds like they WANT to tell you, but they might have made a deal with your boyfriend to keep it a secret until the "mini prom"...
My advice is basically just do whatever you think ou should do, but keep your friends' opioinons in mind too.

What's wrong with going?

Is it so "common society" and since ur so outcast and cool, you won't conform?

All of these dances and things are corny and silly. THey are there however to give you memories and time share with those you really do care about.

You will probably take some bad photos and wear something that you hate and have your hair done in a way that makes the Babylonian Hanging Gardens look like some wilting lettuce, but what important is that you can say that you were there. In 20 years, you won't care abut the stupid dress or hair anyways.

Best yet, you will still have that lame photo to show ur kids!

Ok Ill give u two advices:
1) Why not go? It will be a great experience, and believe it or not, getting all pretty and dressed up can be quit fun....And it seems as tho ur friends really care about u and would really like u to be there too. So try not to think of the prom as something that will be bad, like "oh no Ill have to wear a dress and all" think of it as something that can change u, a completely different experience

.
2) Well, if u really dont want to go that badly, just talk to ur friends. Tell them you have ur own personal reasons and u appreciate them trying to make u go but you just dont want to. Tell them its stressing you out really badly when they push you that way and thats its not fair for you, and that you wouldn't make any of them do something they dont want to , so they have to stop doing it to you..

u need to put ur foot down and let them understand that the "mini prom" isn't ur thing. Hopefully they'll understand. OR u can go with them all and u dress in something thats "U" and a little fancy. Really make sure they get what ur saying. GooD LuCK

I'm sure ONE of your best friends understands how you feel. ;)

Maybe you can make a compromise...
If the whole dressy thing isnt your style, try and do a dress more 'you'. Dont get your hair done, just leave it as it is. Go, and just wear something that is a little closer to your style.

I'm sure your friends just want you to have a good time.

By looking them in the eye and saying "I've decided I'm not going. If I change my mind I'll let you know." You have a right and a brain to make your own decisions. If they don't like your decision, that's theirs to deal with. You just go on being you and their friend. Who knows by then you might decide to go, but again that's your decision.

if your friends and your boyfriend is forcing you to do something like going to that dance then just tell them you don't want to go and if they keep telling u 2 go then just ignore the whole thing don't do what u don't want 2 do so just go home thats what i would do!

Tell them that if they respected you in anyway as your friends then they would respect your decision in not going. If they really cared then they wouldn't force you into doing something that you don't want to do. Good Luck
