"Everyone knows that Mount Everest is the tallest mountain in the world, right?
Well, if you want to get technical about it, the answer is NO.

Mount Everest stands 29,028 feet tall. From top to bottom, it's taller than any other mountain--whose bottom is the surface of the earth.

Here's the catch: If you add what's underneath, then Mount Everest isn't the tallest mountain. The winner then is Mauna Kea, a huge, very tall volcano on the Big Island of Hawaii (called Hawaii). Mauna Kea stretches 13,796 above water and 19,680 underwater, for a total of 33,476!

So if you say that it's the whole mountain that counts, then Mauna Kea is the tallest http://www.socialstudiesforkids.com/funfacts/worldstallestmountain.htm ."

On whether I would climb that mountain, well.... while I do enjoy climbing and exploring, I am not sure that I am physically MT. Everset type material though being a momma, wifey, student, working woamn,& adventurer, I climb mountains daily of different hieghts. (Many of them my kids made our of mole hills, though...lmao)

I ski & hike the mt.s of the Appalacians routinely. (going skiing this weekend, even). & love that mountain air. Nothing like it. I am sure that to conquer a feat like climbing to the top of a summit is an awesome feeling & would love that rush!

Everest is the tallest mountain in the world. Generally considered to be 29,028 (8848 metres) feet but actually 29,017 feet (8844 metres) as it's since been more accurately measured.

It's on the border between Tibet and Nepal - Tibet is an autonomous region of China so you could also say it's on the border between China and Nepal.

Tibetans call it Chomolungma, the Nepalese call it Sagarmatha, it was originally called Devgiri but was named Everest by the British when they surveyed it back in 1860 something.

Very very few people are capable of climbing it as it's summit lies in the 'Death Zone' - the height beyond which humans can't survive for any length of time. Entering the Death Zone plays havoc with your mind, you forget who you are, where you are, what you're doing. Although I climb lots of mountains I think Everest would be beyond me unless I put in at least a year's serious training.

Mount Everest is the tallest mountain in the world. It is just under 30,000 feet tall. You would need to travel to Nepal and will cost you $70,000 US for a climbing permit to ascend. This does not include travel, food, lodging and general expenses.
