I am a 9th grader trying to figure out what to do with my life. I have a career in mind, but I like to keep my options open so I need your help.

1) I classify myself as a creative person. I like to step back, look at what the results of my creativity, and feel good about the fruits of my labours.

2) I am the math/science type of person.

3) I have excellent grades, and I will be going to university.

4) I am very mentally driven and innovative. I like to think of new ideas.

5) I like to impress. This would be my greatest motivation.

Thx in advance!

Now, hear me out:

Teacher / professor.

As a math/science person, you probably like the order and logic of the subjects. But you claim that you are also a creative type. You can use your creativity (and you will probably have to, depending on your students) to teach in ways that keep the students' interest and help them learn efficiently with good retention. A good teacher can be very impressive (you like to impress); a clever way to teach (analogies, a system, stories, demonstrations) can make an a big impact on students' learning. They'll remember you, and maybe even thank you. They may even call you the most influential person in their lives.

In the U.S., there's a BIG demand for math and science teachers. Go for the highest degree you can get to earn the big bucks, though high schools may not hire PhDs because they require higher pay. If you don't teach HS, then teach in a small college or in community college. They are on the upsurge due to the rising cost of big university education. You'll still earn well, and better than in HS.

Just one suggestion.

Good luck.

(Devil's advocate: don't think of medicine. It's not a creative field, for the most part. Protocol dominates over scientific/mathematic thinking. Talk to doctors about the drawbacks of medical practice.)

Yes, you sound pretty sharp in comparison with most ninth graders. Also like a future scientist/engineer/programmer or something close.

Your greatest accomplishment if the foregoing proves out will most likely be after college -- choosing the right company and getting through the door....

If your college record is good they will come looking for you, even to your campus.

But there are still seven years, perhaps somewhat less to that point.

You may decide differently than science or engineering. Even within science the range of possibilities is extremely large. You will develop interests, narrowing the range, as you mature.

So, I haven't a clue how you will end up, nor what is best for you.

But I do know that no one else in all the universes is just like you.

Science is best used for improving the lot of humanity in ethical ways, not impressing people.

Probably true that most people do not like scientists.

The 250,000,000 dollars is going to a soccer (football) player, yes?

Most people are rather emotional, unthinking, somewhat rowdy, even violent from your point of view?

Telling those people you are a scientist who can impress them won't go very far, and most of them cannot or will not read your book or the books you like.

So, your greatest happiness will be working with others like yourself, and letting your actual work results impress them (or not, as the case may be).

Be thankful if you get the opportunity to work. Many do not. Some even went to the concentration camps and were gassed.

Even now we are in a period of great change. Ultimately things will sort out for the better, but the road could be rocky, has been rocky.

You sound sharp enough to go for just about anything. Your creativity will probably lead you out on your own in business, and you have the drive it takes to succeed. I don't see you sticking with just one occupation. Math/science sounds like a good engineering type direction to take. You are obviously good in communications as well. You will probably never truly be satisfied unless you are conquering new challenges, probably juggling multiple endeavors as you sharpen your business savvy. Get a well rounded education and you're all set. Your best asset: the combination of strengths you have developed.
