A dog licking you is actually a sign of submission. They do it to other dogs when they are communicating that they mean no harm. So in a way, it IS a sign that they love you. In dogs' language showing submission to someone is the ultimate sign of respect. Dogs also lick to get sensory information, OR they know if you have something delicious like ice cream all over your hands!

Dogs lick people when they like them. Puppies learn this gesture from their mothers, when they lick them from head to toe. They feel protected and cared for when being licked, and when they lick their mother, it means that they are hungry. Some of these childhood gestures are never forgotten, that's why some adult dogs still lick their human family to show affection.

When a dog licks you he is looking for you acceptance or approval. He is not kissing you or showing you any sign of affection. He may also, with his great sense of smell just be looking for food or sniffing (licking) a scent he smells Sorry folks, that is true, look it up.

Because the dogs love their owners and it means like they are giving them kisses.

They are k-9 kisses! They kiss you for lots of reasons. To say hello because they are glad to see you or to say thank you after a good massaging bubble bath or to ask you for something while showing you they care about you even though they need care at the moment. Animals are amazing loving souls! Have you ever just looked into their eyes for a minute? You see so much of who they are! I love them all!

Very simply because of the salt content on the surface of our skin
Dogs crave salt and sugar and the licking is,sadly nothing to do with the dog's affection for you
