My ten week old puppy has become infected with earmites, and we can't take her to the vet until Monday. Does anybody know of any treatments we can do at home?

There is over the counter medicine that can be found at most pet stores. Just make sure that it can be used on a 10-week old puppy.

But, only use this product if you know for sure that it's ear mites. If the discharge from the ears looks like coffee grinds, then yes... it's probably ear mites.
If there is just a strong odor or discoloration, then it is probably another type of infection.

These products may give your puppy relief and stop the reproduction cycle of the mites, but you will still need to take the puppy to the vet to fully treat her.

Good luck!

Dogs don't commonly get earmites unless they have been in dirty surroundings or in close contact with cats who have earmites. Do NOT treat your puppy before it is seen by the vet!!! This could very well be an ear infection & not mites and by self treating you can cause some very serious problems even deafness.
Do NOT use home remedies, do NOT use OTC products!!! Do NOT self medicate wait until Monday when you can take the pup to the vet.

Unless you know for sure its ear mites dont treat it. waiting until Monday wont hurt even if it is ear mites. There are lots of things that could be wrong with ears that cause itching. There is a yeast infection (it would smell really bad) or ear mites or a bacterial infection. Until the vet can look at it and determine what it is I wouldnt treat it. If it is ear mites they can give an injection to kill the mites and they will probably clean out the ears. DO NOT try to clean the ears out yourself BEFORE you go to the vet. they will need a sample of the junk in the ears to see what is wrong. Well I would wait until the vet sees it so that way you dont waste money on medicines that might not fix the problem. Hope this helps.

Go online to http://petsmart.com or http://petco.com and put in earmite in the search box and check out for yourself what products they have and compare prices before you get there.

the local pet store or farm store should have something to help your puppy until you can get to the vet. Are you sure its mites and not a fungus.
