I prefer dealing with an agent.
Then again, I consider my agent to be a good one. I've called him up on a few occasions and he went to bat for me each time.
When it was my fault, he did all the leg work to make sure my policy paid out like it was supposed to.
He called me to tell me that I should ask for a rate reduction when I turned the magic age of 25 - I didn't call him.
He called me to point out that if I had renter's insurance, the savings on my auto would be greater than the renter's policy. Result, my car and apartment are covered for less money than my car alone - he informed me of this without being asked.
When it wasn't my fault, he stood between my insurance company and the opposition claiming it was my fault. He told me to not say a word and told me to refer anyone calling me to him so I would avoid saying something that could be construed as admission of guilt I didn't intend to make.
He earned my continued business this way so everyone benefits.
Sure, I pay slightly higher rates that an online company may charge, but the service he gives me is worth an extra 50 bucks a year.

Having a face to face agent makes a difference. They can go to bat for you in many situations, and get exceptions made in cases where there is leeway. An anonymous person who just happens to get your call because you're next in the queue has no reason to go above and beyond. The local agent does.
I was an insurance agent for 15 years and I did and saw hundreds - perhaps thousands - of examples of getting cancellations turned around, getting coverage provided that was originally denied, getting back credit for errors - whether the faulyt of the company or the insured. The list is endless.
Even though I retired to be a Stay at home Mom, I will always have a local agent. Absolutely the best way to go.

spoken by an Agent that goes to my clients' homes, they prefer the face to face. I work with Seniors and most don't understand what they have and why. Sometimes I am there for hours helping them. They all have my cell # and know they can call me anytime. Their kids appreciate the face to face at claim time. And the person who says that an Agent has nothing to do with claims is speaking of 99% of the companies and agents out there. I process and followup and get paid all my clients claims! That's how I stay in business and sleep at night. Good Ole Customer Service.

I have had insurance agents both ways: I have met with them in person and I have dealt with them online. I have to say... my preference is to definitely have an insurance agent (I like the security in knowing that there is a person who will help me with my insurance questions and needs), but dealing with them online is a great innovation. I'm sure that my agent is busy... I'm busy too! It is very convenient to be able to communicate with him via email -- rather than making trips to his office (which is a 45 minute drive away). I like my insurance agent, but I appreciate that we can do business online.

no remember how lots you like a guy or woman you met online, or how friendly they might look you will possibly desire to consistently becareful i'm not asserting DONT flow yet only be clever be sure you flow to public areas with him, in no thank you to his private abode. do not permit him be attentive to the place you reside (a minimum of not yet). tell a chum the place you're going and ask to envision in after a speedy time. i'm not asserting he's a undesirable guy however the information superhighway is quite difficulty-free to disguise your genuine character so do what you will possibly desire to guard your self.

For me and dealing with insurance and know how much of a run around they give... I prefer face to face. Dealing with them on the phone is horrific... all you ever get is "automated systems" telling you to "Please hold on as your call is very important to us."...If I do have a problem, so for me at least, face to face per my experience is the best route...

its up to you, you do not need to have a relationship with you insurance agent if you dont want to, they are getting paid, to work for you wether you shake there hand physically or not.
and no, your insurance agent doesnt have anything to do with your claim. this guys off.
we can only do so much, to get you going with your claim, and they you have an adjuster.
agents are not adjuster, adjusters are not underwriters, claims is not customer service,

Defiantly face to face.
The times that it will make a difference is when you have a claim then you will appreciate the difference.
