All place mentioned so far (or almost) are very nice but due to their proximity to the capital are probably expensive. Ive recently moved to a village in Nth. Cambridgshire very quiet & pretty and as cheap as chips.
i.e. A 3 Bed Det Bungalow en suite usual trimmings £190.000. Its 2hrs 30 mins by car to Central London

The Chiltern Hills in Buckinghamshire. Beautiful rolling hills containing small farms, wodland and heath. Lots of walking and horse riding opportunities. Only 50 minutes or so by train from London.

Devon and Cornwall are delightful places. Or Hamshire and Wiltshire, equally nice.
