Quite possibly he used the HOSTS file to block the site. You can look for this by going to Windows\System32\Drivers\ETC\ there you will find HOSTS and open it with Notepad. Inside it should have some comments and then the first line below that will be:

127.0.0.1 localhost

Then beneath that line will be a bunch of other entries all starting with the 127.0.0.1 loop back address. What this does is when you type in lets say www.yahoo.com if that is entered in the HOSTS file as 127.0.0.1 it will try to go to 127.0.0.1 of which is a diagnostic address in yuor computer and go no where. This is very effective at blocking spyware and pop-ups as all sites have to have a IP address.

Check for the above and delete anything after the first line of 127.0.0.1 and you should be good to go.

First of all you being : "nine_ball..." I'm not certain if I'd be helping you or hurting you.

It could be a setting in Internet Explorer ...or a separate program...even an Antivirus Suite has such settings available.

Whatever the program is.... it's blocking instructions are in the registry.
Deleting the program may not reverse those changes ... in fact it could make it all the more difficult to reverse them.

If this is indeed your PC then you should have administartor priviledges... or else there is a lot more that you are prevented from doing with your own computer.

The program should be easily found in the Start Menu or as a setting in IE.

I feel I've answered your question, but would like to add that I do not believe you are being honest with us.

With all due respect, I suspect there is no previous owner & that someone in your household has found themselves in a situation where they had to do something or continue to suffer the conseqences of your gambling habit.

I believe that many others here will suspect the same.

regards & take care,
Philip T

Right Click on the "Start" button, choose Explore. From the upper menu, choose "Tools" then "Folder Options". Click on the "View" tab in the middle, scroll down to "Hidden Files and Folders" and make sure "Show..." is checked. Apply!

It is probably blocked in the internet explorer. Go to:

TOOLS | INTERNET OPTIONS | PRIVACY | SITES and see if you see the gambling ones blocked.
