First don't think about it as the rest of your life...that's WAY too mcuh pressure. Current thinking expects us to change professional direction several times over our lives. So, the question is what kind of work are you interested in NOW.
What do you LIKE to do? What are you good at? What would you like to LEARN to do? Answering some or all of these questions might help you to gain some insight as to what might suit you. Also, consider making an appointment with a local employment agency. Most cities have a public program that will counsel you and help you find focus in your career search. Good luck!

Look at what you want to have in life. Then breakdown the reason why you enjoy being a cashier. Then breakdown what you don;t enjoy about being a cashier. If it's cash handling, you should probably look into a banking field or a higher level cashier position like the cash office for a casino. If you enjoy the people more, then look into more customer service fields. If the business side intrigues you, try an accounting field or billing (eg medical, legal). Mainly, ask the simple question "why" and try to keep your answer simple and honest.

Ok let's look at the people who like to be clerks, and give people their receipts, but make the most money for doing this......
instead of working grocery stores, you can take your skills to Macy's, or a exclusive store, or an organic grocery...
you probably will have to relocate to a bigger metro area...where do you want to go?????????

There isn't a rule that one job is all you get for the rest of your life. You can do several different jobs and still come out on top.

Find something you love to do and do it well enough that someone will pay you to do it.
