I was thinking that i might get my medium/long haired kitten used to water as a youngster so she won't make as much of a fuss if she needs to get a bath for any reason later on (i am not planning on doing this regularly though. just when she needs it). She is 9 weeks old. How should i introduce her to water? She is a little bid shy and independent, so i don't want to scare her.

I really don't think it's necessary. Many cats (including some of my own) have gone their entire lives without needing a bath. You could end up minus some blood, trust be on this!
Even if you do bathe her, chances are good that she will never "get use" to it. Here's a tip. Several years ago, I had a cat who had a bacterial infection on the skin of her back; my vet advised me to bathe her with an antibacterial shampoo, as nothing esle was working. So I came up with a brainstorm...I asked him for a mild tranquilizer (the dose is based on their weight) which he gave me. When I needed to bathe my cat, I gave it to her about half an hour before I started the bath. Amazingly, she just sat there in the sink and allowed me to do it! (I had tried to bathe this cat on a previous occasion and it looked like a cougar had gotten ahold of me.)
Anyways, I guess what I'm saying is...cross the bridge when you come to it, and a tranquilizer makes it a whole lot easier to cross :)

why do you factor out the cleansing soap? maximum non cat particular threat-free soaps at the on the spot are not threat-free for use on cats for the easy incontrovertible actuality that cats do groom themselves and for that reason ingest some thing it is positioned on them. you imagine that you're going to rinse the cat thoroughly sparkling yet you could't ever be particular with the aid of all of that fur. cats do no longer go with to get used to water. yet you may do it through only putting them in water frequently. when I have foster kittens without moms they go with to be rinsed off fairly frequently because they get nutrition and particles throughout themselves for the first 6 weeks or so. They get rinsed each day or the different day and some very mild cleansing soap if fairly needed. those kittens develop into cats who love playing in water and that i have been advised they love jumping interior the bathe with their proprietors from time to time. btw, you'd be getting Marlie spayed in some weeks precise? because including to the puppy over inhabitants is thoroughly irresponsible. each day there are tens of 1000's of animals that are killed because they don't locate homes. this can only end even as people end allowing their significant other animals to end breeding.

You don't need to introduce her to water, cats never need to get a bath they can keep their fur clean as long as they're healthy. Don't force your pet to get used to things she hates. You can brush her hair regularly so you can help her at this cleaning thing.

I would give her a mini-bath regularly, like every week, so that she gets accustomed to water, and she will know that water is harmless.
