My kittens are 9 weeks old and they used to wear a collar back at the humane society, but we haven't started them wearing one at home. Should i get them to wear a collar? they will be mostly indoor cats, but possibly will go outside to go to the bathroom or something. What kind of collar should i get? probably a break-away one, i'm assuming? oh and also are collars dangerous for when they play?

Absolutely! I had 2 cats, and 1 kitten, the mother and baby were lost and never returned because I never put a collar on them, (I never planned on them going outside-i thought they would be safe) Many pet stores have safety collars for even tiny kittens...and none of them should be expensive. This way incase they get outside somone might see the collar and not be mean to it. Also this way if somebody finds them they will know they are not strays and return them to you.

Yes, please get them wearing collars again! It could mean the difference of them making it back home to you if they accidentally got out and got lost. I got my cat a Safe Cat breakaway collar. Test the breakaway in the store. If you can't pull it apart yourself then if probably wouldn't be safe if they got caught on something. You can get tags engraved with their names, phone #, and address. My cat wears a tag with her info/my cell number on it and her Ohio rabies vaccine tag from the vet. She is an indoor cat (sometimes we go for walks in the park) but I don't want to take any chances.

There is this new collar I saw online that has a little velcro compartment where you can put a piece of paper in there and type up all the info you want. You can put medication info on there, or "I have a microchip," reward info, anything you want. The microchips are great to get if your kittens do not already have them.

I used to artwork for a vet and we bought destroy free collars there. in the experience that your kitten has to positioned on a collar they're the most secure. you may see in case you could order a collar from a cat mag. i do not doubt you should locate it on ebay. Are you going to get your kitten spayed or neutered? it is a great time to get it tatooed. We used to attempt this on the medical institution each and every of the time. The cat's already positioned less than so it would not sense an element. Our vet used to easily value about $5.00 to do this. wish you locate a destroy free collar. good luck.

If your kitties are not going to go outside then you really don't need to put one on them. It's all a personal preference. Although if you think there is a chance that they might get outside it is best to have an ID on them in case they get picked up. If you do put one on them most definitely make sure it is a breakaway collar. Even if they don't go out. They make them that have elastic in a part of the collar so when they get caught on something it will stretch and they can get their head out, (mine have lost so many, but it's better than the alternative), and they make the ones that just unsnap. Those are a little harder to break loose if they get caught. Hope this helps.

Make the collar a loose soft collar with a comfortable material. Nothing tight or over elaborate. Just a simple a collar, preferrably adjustable, as it grows. If you can attach its name and put your phone number in case they run away.

You should get a collar just in case they run out the door when you are coming in sometime. This way if someone finds them they will know that they aren't stray cats.

I dont put a collar on my cat, but thats ONLY because they are not allowed outside, and we are very careful that they dont get out. Since yours go out everyonce in a while, you need to put a collar on them w/ the cats name, your name, and your number and where you live, just in case your cat gets lost.

You are right with the break away. I wouldn't get anything else. Otherwise when they are outside, they could get it caught on something and hang themselves. I don't know if I would worry about trying to put one on a 9 week old kitten though. My advice would be wait until he/she is atleast 6 months old. Hope this helps.

My cats are inside cats and they wear collars that are the safety ones that if they get caught on something they will come off, so they won't choke or anything worse. I have them on so if they do go out people know they are not stray cats they are pets, and they have name tage to so if someone injures them they know who will be looking for them.
