Many people are disinterested or lazy. The only way to combat this, is education. Make politics more exciting to children in schools so they become more stimulated & interested in our electoral process & want to vote.

I believe politics is an important part of all of life in the USA especially. Yet, there seems to be an effort to get politics out of other classes-like history or economics or science. Politics is an important part of everything we do, but I doubt people realize that. Government classes must be brought back to the classroom-students no longer get to participate in "mock government" as I did as a Senior in HS-which was a fun way to understand how our system works. It's a right and privilege to vote but perhaps people don't understand the power of the votes of many together can bring down the bullies.

Several reasons, some see themselves as too busy, others don't like to be involved with the dirtyness of politics, some are lazy, while others do not want to take the time to pay attention daily as to what is happening and because they are so uninformed do not believe they could vote wisely. Some folks also feel it does no good as the illuminati and Skull and Bones will get what they want anyway. Others believe their vote doesn't count in some way. In a democracy everyone should vote even if in the minority. They are all important.

Many people can't find a good candidate to represent their feelings on important issues. Mostly, people have a choice between a dem. and a rep. Therefore, everything is polarized, meaning you can't be prolife, but at the same time be pro-gay rights, etc. Candidates stick with the beliefs of their party, not the beliefs of the people they are representing, and most people sense that and ask themselves why vote when in reality yiou are just figuring, which is the lesser of the two evils, dem. or rep.?
Also, people are lazy to keep informed and those of us that are intelligent know that we will be outvoted by the idiot masses anyway, so we don't bother, because we already know we are doomed to have an idiot for a president if most of the people in this country continue to be uninformed and unintelligent about their votes.

I don't vote. But then I mostly don't complain either. To me politics is just another word for organized crime. And they get away with it. To drive limos to wherever and have expensive lunches is such a waste of good money. But who cares? So why should we? Then there is the bribing that goes on and the fixed elections. How did Bush get re-elected? Jeb did what? Oh give me a break. And did they get away with it? Hell yea. No. I'm not into voting for lying. It's just not worth it to me. I take my hits and deal with it. It's so bad that I don't watch tv much anymore or listen to the news. I don't even read the papers. I just don't want to know when I'm gonna get bombed. Let it be a surprise. I have enough worries. It's a poor game that people in authority are playing. They just try to manipulate all of our lives. Sometimes less is more. To know less you don't have to worry more. such a shame.
My age? Just say mid life. that's fair enough.

i don't know if it is possible to change peoples minds. they have to do that for themselves. as far as why some people do not participate in voting? well.....some people feel that the government cannot be trusted. some people feel that voting is a waste of time its fixed. some people feel that their votes won't count or matter (i.e. Bush Election 2004), some people feel that politics is only a popularity contest and further still some people feel that all politicians are corrupt, criminals or both.
(just for reference i vote every election term)

I think that some people do not vote because of the choices that they have to make. When we have two candidates for any office in the US and both come off as incompetents, lots of people say"Why should I waste my time?" . Personally, I do not have the wisdom of Solomon and am able to decide which of the two incompetent candidates is going to do less harm to America. Give us better candidates whom we can look up to with pride,
Candidates who are intelligent, who are not so egocentric that they want to be President or whatever at any cost. Candidates who promise one thing before election and who do not deliver once they are in Office. Give us candidates whose morals are not in question, who present us with a realistic vision of what America can be, and present us with a rational blueprint of how to achieve that vision, and people will go out to vote.

Lack of interest.
I don't think people under the age of 30 should be able to vote.
The younger generations don't have enough life experience to understand how politics effect our lives
