So I am looking up the State of the Union Speach. Not reading the whole thing, just looking to get the basics, and I become aware that during his whole adress, Bush never mentioned huricaine relief for the south.

Now he did mention rebuilding Iraq. So important to rebuild. Why are we pumping billions of dollars overseas and not putting any money into rebuilding our own country? I mean, Iraq may need some help also, and they definetly need some different people in charge of where our money over there goes, but have we really put our own country on the back burner and just forgotten they exist down there?

Everyone seems to have forgotten all the embezzlement that took place buy local and state government and some of the people who professed to be victims.

There are millions of dollars just waiting to be claimed buy the people in politics.

We don't see this on the news but maybe once. The good people of New Orleans were marching on the street carrying banners and wanting to take their city back and run out the criminals. This was on the news last week.

I have mixed emotions about how the state was not more prepared.

The Government has given a whole lot of money, the red cross, individuals, NBA Basketball and many famous people. Churches of all denominations have help. Habitat for Humanity. Entertainers, actors and many many more.

There is no country or ever will be prepared to deal with an enormous disaster.

Things are getting done but the news never shows the good that has been done.

A bigger question is does anybody remember that the hurricane hit Mississippi head on. Some small towns ceased to exist. And it has not changed much, people are still being fed by relief trucks and living in tiny FEMA trailers. N.O. did not get a direct hit, there the levees failed and let the city flood. It was actually a man made disaster in N.O. If the levees had held there would have been much, much less damage. But Mississippi has gone to work and is rebuilding, slowly but rebuilding. And not whining about it much. They are used to being ignored or forgotten. More blame should be put on Louisiana officials, city and state for having the levees in such terrible shape. They also could have prevented building in low lying areas.

It's not that New Orleans has been forgotten, it's that the nation as a whole has other, more current distractions. New Orleans did recieve a considerable amount of attention before and during the hurricane, perhaps more than any other event preceding it. There are also two senators and a few representatives to continue to find money to help rebuild.

The President's State of the Union speech was weak in many areas, and all groups are hoping to hear their issue brought up. Historically every single speech made by a President is criticized for leaving something out.

Though I love to hate on Bush as much as the next girl it's a bigger problem than just the president. The media conglomerates need to keep the masses entertained and so they have stopped paying any attention to New Orleans, while Iraq on the other hand while old and stale, has become so old news that people are angry with the administration for keeping us there. And stuff to complain about sells. as a result the people have Iraq on the for-front and New Orleans on the back burner and Bush being the politician that he is, is trying to give the people what he thinks they want.

Thanks! I am personally from Louisiana, just a few hours north of New Orleans and we are all quite upset with the State of the Union address! More than New Orleans it is the Gulf Region, not just New Orleans that took hard hits! Talk about a slap in the face! He seems to have become more proccupied with overseas problems than the ones he has within his own country! Talk about a little bit off target! I am in no way saying that the Iraq problem does not deserve some attention, but hello, WE ARE IN THIS COUNTRY, so shouldn't we get a little conversation. My family has spent countless hours helping out and doing all that is possible to help those who were so drastically affected by the storms, since we were fortunate enough to have not been so devastated! It's like non of it never happened, if you listen to the speech!
I was definately upset! He needs to find some new speech writers because his really let him down this time!

And in response to the response earlier that no one should live ther due to storms, then why do people live in CA-earthquakes, or in OK & KS-tornadoes, NY-snow storms - need I go on! People live where they live, don't criticise because of weather paterns!

I read today that the Pentagon gave $125 million in equiptment to Local municipalities. I don't doubt that America's cities need all the help they can get but it would seem damn poor planning on the part of people who are paid to be smart planners. This is so typical of the true State of the Union. We have spent a billion dollars a week in Iraq and the Bush and Cheney have time to go to the ranch and shoot lawyers.
The only reason we are sending 20,000 more young people to Iraq is to delay the exit until Bush is out of office.
How much good would a billion a week do for New Orleans?

New Orleans was a great city, a cultural center, the Bush adminstration's abandonment and failure to rescue the people during Katrina is a national disgrace. If we can fund Iraq we can rebuild New Orelans

Rumsfeld said on live TV during hurricane Katrina, they were more concerned about their assets when asked why they have not sent help to New Orleans yet, and then they cut him off in the middle of the question and answer session, all the channels did at the same time and no one ever spoke of what he said.
Talk about censorship!
Bush don't give a rat's turd about his own country.
He just wants to control that oil and satisfy his oil well buddies.
If another major disaster were to happen now, he would "stay the course" and not give a crap. Its so sickening its scary.

No one has forgotten New Orleans but you and everyone else seem to have forgotten that N.O. wasn't the only place damaged by Katrina. Ask the folks in Biloxi and all along the Gulf Coast. Now THOSE people have been forgotten.

Just had my taxes done. New Orleans has been included there for decades.

Do you really believe it should be an incorporated city, or that Louisiana should be a state? Considering they can't do anything without the Nanny Washington taking care of them?

Leave Iraq out of the discussion. Once Iran controls the world's oil supply you won't have the juice to run your computer and ask such questions...
