You are probably feeding your fish a little too much if uneaten flakes remain uneatten long enough to grow fungus.

You should only feed most freshwater fish as much as they can eat in the space of a few minutes- unless you have species with different eating habits in your tank.

If the flakes are now floating around, take the chance to scoop em out.

Either water mold, fungus or bacteria. Either way it needs to go. Do a good vacume and use B-clear (Hagan) as instructed on the bottle and fill your filter with polywool. Be back to normal in a day or so. In the future, don't feed them as much and if you do see food sitting at the bottom after the fish have finished eating, remove it. Good Luck.

It is a fungus growing on food that has not been eaten. It needs to be removed from the tank. A little will not harm the tank or the fish but it still should be removed.
