You dissolve coca leaves with sulfuric acid, it produces a thick white paste. You spread this paste out and cook it under heat lamps. When it is completely dry you grind it up and you have the powder.

It does come from Cocoa leaves which are turned into a paste.
Producing "paste" was originally the first step in making cocaine. Now, farmers—or nearby processing labs—process the leaves into something called "base." The base is screened and impurities removed. The base is then taken to a chemical plant owned by large drug traffickers where chemicals are added to the base to convert it into cocaine.

Depending on the country where grown, coca leaves from a 1 hectare field can be processed into 4.0 to 7.4 kilograms (about 8.8 to 16.25 pounds) of cocaine.

Go to the link and learn.

And while you are at it, ponder why people would want to snort hydrochloric acid and coca paste?

I can see chewing on coca leaves, but I'll pass on the heavy chemicals.
