There are various reasons for people leaving their cats outside.

1. There is an over abundance of wild cats out there that constantly breed. There are organizations that look for theses cats and try to get them spayed or neutered, but they can't get them all.

2. Some people just believe that animals were built to be outside and so that is where they belong.

3. Some people may like having an animal around but because of a medical condition like allergies cannot have an animal in the house.

Nothing breaks my heart more then to see an animal suffering. Last night I found a cat that was shivering outside my house. I took him in my basement, out of the cold ( it was below zero here in NY lst night.) CATS GET COLD! The poor thing was freezing! I can tell that he is really old too and he canonly eat soft food because his teeth are really brittle. I am trying to find it a home, I already have 4 cats and my husband is allergic!

WINTER TIPS FOR KITTIES:

As winter weather really sets in, don't forget to help keep your cats warm and safe. Help your cats remain healthy during the colder months by following these simple guidelines.

The winter season can be harsh on our cats, so that you should fortify their coat. Supplementing their diet with essential fatty acids that will cause the coat to grow in a bit thicker for the cold months. Vegetable oils such as canola oil, safflower oil, soybean oil, butter and fish oils are high in these fatty acids. They can be added to the food. Cats do have a preference for the fish oils!
Increase your cat’s supply of food, particularly protein, to keep his fur thick and healthy through the winter months. So long as your cat does not have a weight problem, give her extra food and treats during the winter months to help her keep warm.
Give your cat vitaminss E and B-complex that will strengthen the tissues and make cats more resistant to cold. But you should be careful, because providing additional vitamins can actually cause imbalances in her diet and medical problems.
Be particularly gentle with elderly and arthritic cats during the winter. The cold can leave their joints extremely stiff and tender, and they may become more awkward than usual. Stay directly below these cats when they are climbing stairs or jumping onto furniture. Consider modifying their environment to make it easier for them to get around. Make sure they have a thick, soft bed in a warm room for the chilly nights.
Make sure your cat has a warm place to sleep far away from all outside drafts and preferably off the floor - such as a basket or a cardboard box with a warm blanket in it. If your cat normally sleeps on the floor, provide her with warm and comfortable mat or bed.
Keep fireplaces screened. Cats luxuriate in its warmth. However, if they lie too close to the fire, they are in danger of hot cinders or sparks. Fireplace heat also contributes to dry skin. Fumes from the fireplace may cause respiratory problems in some cats.
If you have to take your cat to the vet, put a hot water bottle in the carrier. You can also put the cat's bed in the dryer for a few minutes before putting into the carrier. A cover, or towel on the carrier is good for blocking draughts.
Keep your pet's coat well groomed. Matted fur won't properly protect your pet from the cold.

Does anybody here realize that cats are outdoor animals? Yes, many are inside only cats, some are inside/outside, and some are strictly outside. I once had a cat that hated being in the house for more than five minutes. It is natural for cats to be outside, stalking prey, digging holes, eat grass, play with butterflies. It is cruel to keep them inside unless that is what they have known their whole lives and even then it is mean. The most responsible thing to do if you have an outside cat is to set up a warn, protected place for them to curl up. The make outdoor, heating pads if you live in a really cold area. But cats are animals and are meant to be outside. If they are tough enough they will survive. If they don't, that just means it is the survival of the fittest and they lost.

Because their owners are irresponsible and don't care about them. They think that just because they have fur that they'll be okay. Wrong!!! They get cold just like we do. Any vet will tell you that. Would these people stay out all day and all night with just a coat on? No, I don't think so. It could be that the kitten you found came from a stay. Which brings me to my next point: have your cats spayed and neutered.

Same reason people put babies in garbage dumpsters....they have no heart. The kitten you found may have been born by a stray and never had a home to begin with but some people just dont realize the work and just decide to ditch them just like babies. A holes

How sad the poor little kitty. GOOD for you for taking it in. My heart is breaking for the kitten. Some people are sooo heartless and mean, but hopefully they'll get theirs in the end.

i think people don't want to bother with the litter box and they also have the misunderstanding that cats r suppose to b outside. leaving a cat outside leaves it up for fleas, disease, fights and worse getting hit by cars but u cant stop people from doing dumb things.

People think because they have furr that they don't get cold. Some people don't think of animals like all of us animal lovers, which is as a member of our family. Why even get an animal if you aren't going to love it and make it apart of your family.
