Yes! There is no reason in the world why a woman in her 40's cannot have a perfectly normal pregnancy. In fact these days when more and more women are waiting until their careers are settled before starting a family it is not even uncommon anymore. I see women older than 40 having babies.
Some of the answers were correct in that certain things are more common in mothers at 40. Your eggs are not as fresh and perfect as they were at 20. Your doctor may want to do some Genetic testing that might not have been done 10 or 15 years ago. These things are up to you also, if you would rather not be put in the position of being forced to decide whether or not to continue your pregnancy many women choose to forgo these tests and just leave things to chance. That is your decision.
While I would not call your pregnancy high risk I would make sure that you take the time to find an OB/GYN who really knows her business. You want the best.
Take care and many, many Blessings to you dear!

The chances of multiples are only greater if you assume the person was undergoing fertility meds.
Your chances of complications increases. Also, chances of genetic problems are greater. That's why you chould have all the testing your doctor recommends. Or, if it doesn't matter to you either way forgo it all and avoid worry and stress.
A simple ultrasound anywhere from 15 weeks and up will show the docs what they are looking for (genetic markers). Like femar bone length, the nose bone, and nuchlear fold on the back of the neck. Some early ultrasounds have been known to show nuchlear folds when no problem exisits. But, with this the fold goes down in size. If the fold stays the same or increases the likelyhood of downs is apparant.
I'm sure your doc has told you all the risks. But, it is possible to have children without genetic problems over forty.
PS: The 63 (or was it 67) year old woman who delivered a baby did not use her own pieces and parts.

I know plenty of women who had healthy babies when they're 40. 40 isn't necessarily that old nowadays, even for a first child. As long as you get regular prenatal care and get tests done, you shouldn't worry too much about it. Getting pregnant for the first time at 40 is already a blessing in itself.

There is a greater chance because of advanced maternal age that something could go wrong. Take your prenatal vitamins, eat healthy and exercise, go to all your dr visits (and there will be more than a younger woman has), take the tests recommended by your dr. Many women in their 40s are having healthy babies...why shouldn't you be one of them?

While it will be more difficult to conceive, and also the risks of a down syndrome or baby with birth defects is more of a possibility, you have a chance of having a perfectly normal baby.. this also depends on your health and physical condition though too.

ya but u may have complications during ur pregnancy.... like ur doctor may put u on bed rest around 7 months....and u'll have to go for extra tests just cause you are considered high risk pregnancy.
But if u can stay calm and not stress u will be fine and so will ur baby.
