"Achtung Baby" (1991)

I was a freshman in college when U2 released "Achtung Baby" and had been a die-hard U2 fan since the seventh grade. I was in love with "The Joshua Tree" and "Rattle and Hum" and had allowed myself to classify U2 under a certain sound and a specific style of songwriting. When I first heard "Achtung Baby" I did not like it at all. I thought Bono's songwriting had taken a turn for the worse and the music was anything but what I was used to from my favorite band.

After listening to it a few more times and seeing them twice on their ZOO TV tour, I began to realize what it was they were trying to accomplish. The Dublin Four decided that if they were to continue writing and playing the same type of music for years that it would destroy them as a band and as music fans as well. They decided to completely erase everything they had ever learned while playing together and start over from scratch... a second debut album if you will.

It was well-accomplished. "One," "Mysterious Ways," "Until the End of the World," "The Fly," "Even Better than the Real Thing..." these were all bonafide U2 classics and terriffic tunes. I still adore this album... and it's actually my favorite album of all times.

I am a huge fan of achtung baby, can listen every song and apply most fo them to some aspect of life. I love acrobat and so creul. While Zooropa is a fun album and Joshua Tree is a flat out classic, but few albums can carry the emotional impact present in achtung baby for an entire length of the album.

Zooropa is a very good album, and is my favorite for every plane trip I take... Joshua Tree is good for some road trips... Boy & War are great for the rush hour commute...

But my absolute favorite is "Live Under a Blood Red Sky"

I ought to vote for The Joshua Tree besides. i admire rather lots each and every thing they have performed, different than the Zooropa album...Heck, I even like the Pop album. The Joshua Tree is this type of solid piece, from initiating to end....and has my fave U2 song of all time, working to stand nevertheless.

Boy is the best U2 album ever in the same way some people way some people would say Star Wars is the best movie ever. It may seem a little dated now, but *at the time* it was awesome and it still sounds really, really good.
