He wasn't deaf, which I assume is what you mean, but he was blind.

PS after looking at the answers before mine: I don't know if Patsy Cline actually covered "Cry" or not. The answerer could have been thinking of "Crazy," but then again she could have done "Cry" as well. Crystal Gayle covered it, and there were several others. The Roy Orbison song was probably "Crying."
