Technically you don't HAVE to tip, but even at a buffet style restaurant your server will get you drink refills, extra napkins, silverware, etc., clear dirty dishes, and bring the bill at the end. I usually tip 15-18% at a "full service" restaurant and about 10% at a buffet.

You dont ever HAVE to tip. However, if the server does a good job of friendly to you, is diligent in the service provided you should. I would say you should also discreetly find out if they get reg. server wages or reg. minimum wage. I also try to notice if they server is the one keeping the buffet running or it is someone from the kitchen or? If it is the server, then they deserve a better tip anyway since they are doing much more than clearing your dishes. They may also be helping with food prep. as well so they deserve more.

Well. If you get good service at a res. you should tip between 15 and 20% of the check total. Alot of people do not realize that waitress work for PENUTS per hour and they almost always rely on tips. I am not to sure about a buffet!

Unless you are in a place where the culture or "rules" require it, then tipping is usually left up to the indivudual diner.
However, that said, this would depend on whether you did get table service. If the your table was cleared of dishes previously used (while you were visiting the buffet) and they came by to top up or serve drinks, then yes, you ought to leave a tip baised on that level of service.

No...you never HAVE to tip...but remember, the employees there still get paid restaurant wages (low...and often less than minimum wage) and usually work VERY hard.

So the answer is "no" but it would help make the world a little bit better for some people who are under appreciated by their bosses if we did tip them generously.

i used to work at Ryan's haha. The servers make $2.13 an hour, and should be tipped although I wouldn't leave some of my ex coworkers a dime. Just like anywhere I think it should be based on the service.

You don't have to but I do. Even though it's buffet style, you still have a waiter/waitress who brings you a soft drink or water, extra napkins, etc.

Since the waitress delivers you drinks, yes, but not the normal 15%, just tip a couple of bucks.

Usually the server brings your drinks and takes away your dirty plates, so it's definitely a good idea to leave a tip. (Probably no more than 10 percent is necessary.)
