Aside from a blank screen, what are the signs your monitors going out?

It's a CRT and once a day it flickers purple.

Hi. If it is a CRT type (tube) and the size of the image changes with different brightnesses, this indicates a weak monitor. Also if you cannot get the color right then one of the guns (cathodes) may be shot or weak.
