i have a mp3 and i want to know this to see if i would be able to fit more songs on it

Yes, lowering the bitrate makes it smaller. The bitrate is how many bits of information describe the music per time interval. For example, a song with a 128kbit bitrate has 128 kilobits to describe one second of music. 64 has 64, etc. Obviously, the less bits to describe the same length of music, the lower quality it will yield.

MP3 players play the music by guessing what sounds to fill in the gaps left out by a lower bitrate. CD players work the same way, except that the bitrate of CDs is enough information to make the audio sound complete to most listeners.

I thought that bitrate meant the time it takes for the song to dl/transfer.(i.e., higher bitrate=faster dl. true or false??
