I've posted this under the general health heading, but I would like some thoughts from those in favor of natrual remedies. over the weekend i was having terrible sinus headaches. i started flushing out my sinuses with salt water and the headache was gone by sat night. this morning i keep having a sharp pain in my ear. is this related to the sinus pain? i have no fever or other symptoms of anything. is it possibly an ear infection even though i don't have fever or just an earache? i really don't want to be put on antibiotics and i know if i go to the doc i will be whether i need them or not.

it is eye ear and nose problem and you have ear infection. You need some garlic cloves and peel the skin.on very low heat very gently put some olive oil or fresh vegetable oil ,no ground nut oil on a very small pot and fry these cloves until golden brown and you will see the juice coming out from the garlic.Let the oil cool down ,,this is very important and filter it through a clean cotton or linen put two -3 drops in the ear and with the finger rub behind the ear.Eat the cloves with some food and do it when you are at home. You will get some smell from eating .it will work.do you have ear wax if yes then put 3-4 drops of oil for 4 days.Try not to get water when having a bath or shower. If it carry on for few days then you must see the doctor.Best take some garlic tablets and use that oil in the ear. With sinus do not blow your nose strongly you might perforate ear drum, very easily happens.

If you have an infection in your inner ear, nothing you put in there will get to it because of the membrane protecting it.

If it is bacterial and you decide to do nothing, it will spread to your tonsils. After another couple of weeks or so it will spread to your liver and other organs and could very well be fatal.

However, those are only ifs. Certainly the pain will become unbearable if it is a bacterial infection, so you'll know well in advance before it spreads too far. Please cave in and get the antibiotics in that case. It could mean your life.

For now, you can try gargling warm salt water. Your eustachian tube connects your throat to your ear and is often the way an infection gets in there. Gargling warm salt water is hard, but try and do the whole glass, which means about five or more spits. You really need to stand over the sink for it, because it decided to come out by itself sometimes.

Try and gargle as low in your throat as possible. Do it before you go to bed and don't drink anything afterwards so that the salt stays in your throat. You don't have to make it TOO salty.

Okay, it could very likely be drying out due to the salt and/or infection in your ear due to sinus problem. I suggest this: Get some sweet oil for your druggist and heat a bit of it on a spoon over a lighter. Add a few drops to your ear but make sure it is warm and NOT hot. This will soothe your ear and loosen any wax as well that may be contributing to it. I think it could very well be as I stated though and a doctor is the best bet.

Here is what I would do if it were my ear. I would purchase Mullein/Garlic Ear Oil at the natural food store. (Mullein relieves swelling & pain; Garlic is antibiotic.) Use as directed on label for a few days. If it doesn't stop the pain, I'd see my health care provider to get a diagnosis. S/He can look down your throat, up your nose and down into your ear and get a better idea of what's going on.

Also try gently pressing all over your sinuses to see if there are tender spots. Just because the headache stopped doesn't mean you are over this. Check above the eyebrow, temple & down in front of the ear, under eye. Press your tongue on the soft part of your upper pallet. Check the glands just below your jawline.

I like Goldenseal Root as a natural antibiotic. Take 4x daily for 10 days. (Contraindicated in pregnancy.) Lavender oil, applied topically just in front of the ear and behind the earlobe, will ease the pain.

Psalmist, my dear, we don't give antibiotics to people who don't need them. We are quite aware that these are powerful drugs that have a potential for harm. We only give them when the proven benefits outweigh the risk of harm.

Your earache may have to do with your sinus problems, but I doubt it. If a mere flushing of your nose with saline is sufficient to relieve your sinus congestion, it's pretty much proof you likely did not have an infection.

Yes, it is possible to have a low-grade infection in those ears without having a fever. It is also possible you have an infecton in your mastoids, which often produces no fever but can make your life miserable never the less. Those will NOT respond to herbals.
You can go to your physician and ask for his/her trained and experienced opinion and then choose whether or not to accept proven medications or to go ahead and monkey around with herbals. Whichever remedy you choose is up to you. But at least you'll know what ails ya! Maybe when that ear infection ruptures your eardrum and pus starts draining out by the cupful, you'll learn how useless herbals are. But by then, your hearing will be permanently and irreversibly damaged. When that happens, don't go blaming us - it was YOUR choice, remember?

They could very well be related. Sharp pains in the ear, obviously, are not a good sign. Seek medical attention as soon as possible.

I believe its because your ears are pressured by air badly. So you have to go to doctor and ask for pills to stop the air pressure your ears. I had it and it was so painful and i was suffered because i visited in Quito, its was on mountains, all air pressured my ears so hard. Finally i came back to america, ahh it stopped because air were different. Now you have to start clean your ears more often, remember get it easy, not hard, just light clean it. Don't let water enter your ears. So you have go to doctor, sorry.

it is probably that you have a blocked eustacian tube (because of the pain)
A warm compress and massage could unblock it if you (or the masseuse knows what you're doing).
