What is the liquid in a bubble light and how do they work?

It is probably some form of alcohol. It would have a boiling point lower than that of water (100 degrees Celsius) and would easily boil at the temperature of the light bulb. The boiling alcohol would form bubbles which rise, burst, cool, condense and start again.
