There are three ways you can substitute for baking powder. 1. 1 tsp baking powder = 1/4 tsp baking soda + 1/2 tsp cream of tartar 2. 1 tsp baking powder = 1/2 tsp baking soda + 1/2 cup buttermilk or plain yogurt 3. 1 tsp baking powder = 1/4 tsp baking soda plus 1/3 cup molasses When using the substitutions that contain liquid reduce other liquid amounts in the recipe to accomodate. I prefer the baking soda and cream of tartar solution.
