When you mentioned crippled children, 2 music videos came to mind. One was "No Fear" by Terri Clark and the other one is "Standing Outside the Fire" by Garth Brooks. Both videos show mentally and physically challenged children showing that they have "No Fear" In Terri Clark's video, she has the Canadian Special Olympics people doing the sports and in Standing Outside the Fire, Garth tells a story about a mentally Challenged boy who goes for track and field in High School.
Even though they don't mention anything about being disabled in the songs, I still think they would be great ones to sing.
Take Care and Good Luck

I was at a benefit two years ago to raise funds so families of children with cancer could stay in a house near the hospital. Was a great event. But, the highlight of the day was when this girl got up to sing and four of the children from the hospital were up on the stage to sing with her. I later found out one was her little brother. She was about 14 and she sang Hands by Jewel. The kids sang one verse and choruses. Wasn't a dry eye in the house. She was a great singer ,but, she also sang from her heart. So whatever song you choose, just make sure it comes from the heart.

Here's a couple, but may be hard to find:

Lean on Me - original or 80's
The Dance - Garth Brooks
I'll Stand By You - the Pretenders
The Reason - Hoobastank
Black and White - Three Dog Night
He ain't heavy, he's my brother - the Hollies (I think)
Time after Time - Cyndi Lauper

Hope these help - best of luck in your talent show.

Walk on. Very powerful song. Jerry Lewis used to sing it at the end of every telethon.

Don't know if this is totally appropriate but I LOVE this song. "Only Hope" by Switchfoot, then sung by Mandy Moore in "A Walk to Remember." You can buy the sheet music for the "A Walk to Remember" soundtrack. Here are the lyrics:

There's a song that inside of my soul.
It's the one that I've tried to write over and over again.
I'm awake in
the infinite cold, but you sing to me over and over and over again.
So I lay my head back down,
and I lift my hands and pray to be only yours
I pray to be only yours.
I know now you're my
only hope.
Sing to me the song of the stars.
Of your galaxy dancing and laughing and laughing again.
When it feels like my dreams are
so far, sing to me of the plans that you have for me over again.
So I lay my head back down,
and I lift my hands and pray to be only yours
I pray to be only yours.
I know now you're my
only hope.
I give you my destiny.
I'm giving you all of me.
I want your symphony.
Singing in all that I am.
At the top of my lungs,
I'm giving it back.
So I lay my head back down,
and I lift my hands and pray to be only yours
I pray to be only yours.
I know now you're my
only hope.
