The cons of adult stem cell research are many and deep. Most of the supposed pros, it turns out, are outright lies and propaganda sadly. For instance, there are many claims that adult stem cell research has lead to the curing of 65 ailments, when in fact that number is only 9.

Be that as it may, there are fundamental problems with using adult stem cells. First and foremost, they can't be used to produce many cell types. If the stem cell is taken from a muscle, it can only be manipulated to become a muscle cell, for example. Embryonic stem cells can become any type of cell in the body.

Secondly, adult stem cells are more rare and more difficult to grow in large numbers. There is no guarantee that you can find the adult stem cell type that is needed. And, in research, large numbers of stem cells are needed. It is far easier to grow embryonic stem cells in the large numbers necessary to properly conduct research.

Another problem with adult stem cells is that they will contain the any toxins and impurities the host might have. This can lead to dramatic problems in the laboratory. I'm sure you've heard out easy it is to contaminate a DNA sample? The difference is, in this case, if the adult stem cell can be used to cure a disease, that cure could get lost due to said toxins. As with anything, it is best to have the most pure material available to study.

Finally, there is no reason that embryonic stem cells should not be used. They are cells. That's all. They are not a human being. Most embryonic cells don't even become human beings. There are far more miscarriages than births, and many miscarry without ever knowing about it. Embryonic stem cell researchers aren't running around, hoping to rip open women's wombs in order to get at these cells, or kill babies or anything like that. Growing embryonic stem cells is like growing any other culture in the laboratory, be it bacteria, virus, or adult stem cell.

Why does everyone looks at the cons? The pros are much more important! If the stem cells are from an adult I dont think there are any cons worth avoiding research!
