It's a very lonely job. And gets really boring and same old same old after a while.

Yes, and no. Yes cause you will have decent money coming in. And no, especially if you do not get the free time to enjoy life while young. It is kind of hard to drive 8 hours and have a social life especially if you are in different places. If it is a local company driver go for it. Try it for a year to see if it is what you want then by then you will know if you want the lease purchase option. Do not sign up contract with company for more than one year though.

It is a decent job nowadays. The main problem that will come up within the next ten or so years has to do with any North American Union. We've all heard about the massive highways that are being built from Mexico through the US to Canada. If US/Can/Mex join together in a common union in the future it will open the doors to large numbers of Mexicans that are willing to do the work for much cheaper (and not always legally). Truck drivers may face a situation in the future with job security when all of this occurs.

Work as a company driver before you jump into a lease. Take your time and check out the companys you wish to apply at. If I was young and wasent tied down I would drive truck over the road. It gives you alot of time to think and you can see the country and get paid to do it. Good luck

Sure it is. There is good money to be made in the trucking industry.
You will need to work as a company driver before you consider lease/purchase. You will need to understand the ins and outs of driving/living on the road before you decide to buy your own truck. My parents have been team drivers for 10 years and have owned their own truck for 2 years. Even though they had 8 years experience (my dad had 40 years!) they still made mistakes on their truck: bigger sleeper would have been better; should have put a potty and shower on it.
This last year my parents grossed $199,598.00!! Sounds great, right? Their truck payments for last year: $30,000. Fuel: over $20,000 (they drove over 200,000 miles last year). Onan (generator) replacement: $12,000. Steer tires: $3600.00 ($900 each, twice). And the list goes on...It's still good money, though!
You're going to have to start somewhere, but from their experiences I will suggest that you don't drive for Swift if at all possible. They have the worst company driving record!

Yes. Start out as a company driver, then consider the other option later. There are very good opportunities now for tractor-trailer drivers, and the pay is better than ever. Good luck.

first company driver. get some experience, then see if you really want to drive for a living. some of the lease purchase deals are a joke, research the one you are thinking of. you get to see a lot of this big ol' country from the byways and highways. it's fun, but it is a job.

start off with a company to make sure it's something you wanna do long enough to pay off a rig....then save up a downpayment and if you wanna keep driving get your own rig.........then the money really rolls in....of course the costs are upped alot too
