There are a few factors to figure in before you decide on the price. The first was mentioned in one other answer..What kind of area do you live in? Rural areas will be a lot less, I can put my 2 year old twins in public daycare in my rural area full time 8-10 hours for just under $200/wk which is only about $4/hr for both. Also consider who you are babysitting for, even if the area is not so rural is the family in a position where $10/hr would be hard on them? What will you be doing with the kids? How often will you be babysitting? All of these things need to be considered. Also, if you keep your prices low and affordable they may like ones I have sat for be interested using you more often, and potential "gifts" in appreciation for the good care and low cost. $10/hr sounds fair for 3 children especially that age, but consider the above things first.

Wow, after looking at some of those answers I'm afraid what to do when I need a babysitter. I would first consider your age, your experience and how much you do while you are babysitting. And what time of day you are watching the kids. If the parents go out at 8pm and all you do is put the kids to bed by 9 and then watch TV, eat their food or talk on their phone until midnight, then I wouldnt' want to pay you $10 an hour, but if you spend quality time with the kids, play with them, interact, keep the house clean and the kids well fed, then you'd be worth more.
I live in a rural area, where most jobs are just minimum wage so I couldn't see paying someone more 2 or 3 dollars per kid per hour. I take my 18 month to daycare and only pay $20 a day.

most private babysitters charge between $2.50 and $3.00 per child per hour. now i worked at a public daycare and was paid $6.00 an hour for 6 kids from 6am to 6p.m. at any daycare a person would be charged $400 a month plus the expense of the child's food. hope that helps figure something out. just remember don't go higher than any daycare because you will lose business and if you are lower you will be taken advantage of. if you are unsure of how much daycare in your area runs just calla nd get an estimate for the age group you are watching and go down by $100 a month.

I always charged the same price per hour, providing that all kids were with the same family.
Today's rates? At least $6 per hour per family. Additional family's kids, I'd expect $12 per hour ( $6/family). I've had people do that to me - they threw in another couple's kids because they couldn't get a babysitter, and I didn't get much extra for the extra work.

$10 per hour seems reasonable. After 4-6 hours, I would increase the price to $15 per hour.

I'd say seven to eight dollars.
but also look at their finacial availability.
I babysat A LOT of kids for 4 dollars an hour, because a single mom, working two jobs, doesn't have the extra cash.
